The first library in Richland opened in 1886 and was housed
in the old Richland Grammar School. In 1929, a group of ladies
from the community raised funds to open a one-room library in
the west end of the Neptune Fire Company. The library served
the community in this location for the next forty years. A major
renovation of the library occurred in 1967 when a group of citizens
created the organization that exists today. The collection of
books was modernized, hours
were extended and circulation increased. In 1969, the present
building was purchased and renovated . It had been previously
used as a band hall and later a church. Since 1969, circulation
and requests for information increased dramatically and in 1990-1991
the most recent renovation and expansion was finished; tripling
the size of the library.
