One Book, One Community

Every year a new title is selected for this regional reading campaign.  The title is announced in August.  In October the campaign kicks off with special events, author talks and book discussions hosted at area libraries to celebrate reading the title.  Each year's selection is available at your local library and at most area bookstores. Are you reading?

One Book One Community

The 2009 OBOC title is People of the Book by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Geraldine Brooks.  Hanna, a rare book expert and preservist, is commissioned by the U.N. to authenticate and preserve an ancient, rare Hebrew manuscript, Sarajevo Haggadah, in the fragile aftermath of the Bosnian civil war. Follow the Haggadah from its imagined origins in covivencia Spain on its treacherous journey through time and over geography to its rediscovery in the ruins of war torn Sarajevo, Bosnia.  Discover how Hanna uses her considerable skills in her profession to piece together the life journey of this remarkable manuscript.
In 2006 Geraldine Brooks was awarded the Pulizter Prize in Fiction for her novel, March. Originally from Australia, Brooks is the author of several novels and essays.  Visit her website for more information on Brooks and the book and to download a Reader's Guide for People of the Book.

The 2008 One Book One Community selection was The Grace That Keeps This World by Tom Bailey.
