This colorful cookbook provides over 80 recipes taken from original European medieval manuscripts. The author updates these meals for the contemporary kitchen to enable the reader to try out the recipes themselves. Included are dishes which would have been eaten at all levels of society. In addition, each section of the book introduces the historical and social context of each recipe. The author has provided a chapter on herbs and everyday cures which were heavily relied upon by people of the period. The book ends with bibliography and manuscript abbreviations listing, a subject index of old recipes, and a general index.

The origin of the knight, his clothes, his training, and his battles are all detailed in this book. The author also discusses the Crusades, and other obligations tied to knightly orders. The knight's home or manor and the importance of the tournament in his life are also profiled. The book ends with insights into the end of chivalry, a bibliography (or For Further Reading), a listing of works cited, and an index. Black & white illustrations and photographs take the reader visually into the world of a knight.

In the General Reference category of The Power Library homepage please select EBSCOhost, then select EBSCOhost Web Interface, on the following screen you will select your database(s). For this search you should select one or all of the following by checking off each of the boxes: Middle Search Plus, MasterFILE Premier, and/or History Reference Center.
When complete, click continue and from there you are directed to a search screen, here you can enter search terms in the Find box. Recommended terms for this subject include: MIDDLE Ages -- History, CIVILIZATION, Medieval, and Middle Ages. You may also limit your search to full text articles by checking the box in the refine search section of the screen. Other limiters are also available there as well. Also once you do search for terms, note that you can limit your search results by subject simply by following the links on the left hand side of the results screen.

Another recommend database is SIRS Discoverer, also found under General Reference on the Power Library homepage, this database provides information from Encyclopedia Britannica. Middle Ages is a search term or keyword recommended for this database.
